I am so excited to bring you this piece from my visit to the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge. At the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge salt flats, the incoming storm created the most amazing light.

San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1969 and is important part of the Texas Gulf Coast ecosystem. It contains coastal prairie and salt marshes along the landward side of a Texas inner bays. It is full of cordgrass, saltgrass and other plants able to live in brackish water.

These wetlands are home to native and migratory birds as well as fish, alligator and crustaceans.

When I saw this winding dirt road leading away from the storm, it called to me. I shot this piece during the COVID-19 pandemic. The scene meant so much to me.  It meant hope leading us away from the storm of COVID-19.

As a photographer born with a defective immune system, I have to take a plasma-based treatment every two weeks for life to replace my immune system – very similar to the treatment that is being used experimentally for COVID.  This image brought home a sunny hope for so many leading away from the storm.

Stay healthy my friends.
